The TOEFL measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. The TOEFL score is a mandatory pre-requisite to get admission into universities in USA, UK, Singapore and a few other countries where instruction is in English.Many government agencies,scholarship programs and licensing/certification agencies use TOEFL scores to evaluate English proficeiency.
The two formats of the TOEFL are the iBT(internet based test) and the PBT(paper based test).Most locations offer the TOEFL iBT and test centers that do not have internet facility offer the PBT.
Always check the website of the University you wish to join to know if they accept TOEFL scores and what scores are acceptable. Each University fixes up a cut off TOEFL score for admission.
Scoring in TOEFL
You will be evaluated in your performance in the Reading, Listening,Speaking and Writing sections and the scoring for each section is as follows:
Reading (0-30) Speaking (0-30)
Writing (0-30) Listening (0-30) Total Score (0-120)
(A good score is a total score of 90 and above)
